In the fall of 2008, the town will open the county's first "green" shopping center, which in an effort to help preserve Carroll County's scenic environment is constructed out of recycled materials and will be energy efficient. Many residents are drawn to Sykesville for the outdoor lifestyle. At Liberty Reservoir and Piney Run Park, visitors can partake in bow-hunting, fishing, hiking, and boating and the town also features a number of bed and breakfasts, restaurants, and even a vineyard. This small town shares a school district with Eldersburg and is part of the Carroll County Public School System. Its teachers and staff are committed to strong student teacher relationships and continued development among all associated with their schools, including the well-regarded South Carroll High School.
