Roland Park, MD Real Estate

With its beautiful park like setting, mature leafy trees, grand old Victorian homes with beautiful original architectural details; it's hard to believe that Roland Park is actually located in the northern section of one of the mid-Atlantic region's busiest cities. Small and personable grocery stores, coffee shops, book sellers are just a quick walk down the tree lined and neatly landscaped sidewalks.

Dog owners love Roland Park's well traveled wooded paths, which wind along tranquil streams and past stately mansions. The perfect neighborhood for families with young children, playgrounds and a neighborhood pool are within safe walking distance from most homes. Caring neighbors in this upscale neighborhood enjoy the best the city has to offer, from world class museums, to the city's best schools.

Although Roland Park is now considered part of Baltimore City, it was originally conceived as a country retreat for wealthy Baltimoreans. Designed by the Olmstead Brothers in the late 1800's, the picturesque Roland Park holds the historical distinction of being America's first suburb. Roland Park's historical past can be seen throughout the community, as most of the homes are original to the era in which it was built.

Massive Victorian mansions with shady wrap around porches, once intended to help their first occupants to escape the summer heat, now add to the antique character of the sophisticated neighborhood. Although most homes in Roland Park are impressively large, smaller craftsman style cottages can be found in the Tuxedo Park Subdivision. Additionally, a number of Italianate style condominiums with an old-world allure are located in neighboring Tuscany Canterbury.

Just a few miles from Roland Park are a few of the city's best attractions, including the famed Baltimore Museum of Art, home of the Cone Collection, North America's largest collection of Matisse paintings. In addition, four floors of retail shops from high end department stores like Nordstrom; to the fashionable discounter H&M can be found a short drive away in Towson. Roland Park is home to several great restaurants, including Baltimore's best French bistro, Petit Louis. While there is a small gourmet grocery store in Roland Park, shoppers can peruse a variety of products at any one of the three grocery stores within a mile's drive of the neighborhood.

Schools in the Roland Park area are undoubtedly the best in the city. Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Western High School, and Roland Park Elementary have each won accolades from state officials and parents consistently give the schools high marks. Prestigious private schools in Roland Park include The Gilman School, Roland Park Country School, and Bryn Mawr and the Calvert School, for grades K-8, is located in neighboring Guilford.

With an average home price of $625,529, Roland Park is a high end market, but truly offers the best of Baltimore in every way.
