Mt. Airy, MD Real Estate

Centrally located along the borders of Carroll, Montgomery, Howard, and Frederick counties, the pastoral farming community of Mt. Airy feels like a quiet retreat away from it all, but is conveniently located within a short commute of Columbia, Baltimore, and Westminster.

Known for its quaint historic district and lovingly maintained Victorian homes, Mt. Airy is a close knit community with small town appeal. Along the rolling hills and green pastures sit working farms, complete with horses, cattle, and other livestock. Most homes in Mt. Airy reflect the community's agrarian roots and are traditionally styled with large front porches, clapboard siding, and shuttered windows. Giving the town a cohesive aesthetic, even newer constructions and town homes maintain this classic country look.

Originally developed in 1830, Mt. Airy first experienced a growth in population following the establishment of the B&O Railroad. Many residents no longer had to rely upon farming as an occupation and went to work as laborers for the railroad. Today, agriculture continues to play a strong role in the economic and social landscape of the community, although the railroad industry is no longer prevalent.

Depending on the residential address in Mt. Airy, children may attend either a Frederick County or Carroll County public school. As part of the highly regarded Carroll County Public School System, students attend the small and close knit Mt. Airy Elementary and Middle Schools and the larger South Carroll High School. Those living in Frederick County attend Twin Ridge and Green Valley Elementary Schools, Windsor Knolls and New Market Middle Schools, and Linganore and Urbana High Schools.

With its centralized location, beautiful rural setting, relaxed country demeanor,Mt. Airy is a great place for people who want to retreat to a simpler time to call home.
