Originally developed in 1830, Mt. Airy first experienced a growth in population following the establishment of the B&O Railroad. Those living in Frederick County attend Twin Ridge and Green Valley Elementary Schools, Windsor Knolls and New Market Middle Schools, and Linganore and Urbana High Schools.
