Originally known as Jessup's Cut, the town of Jessup was developed as part of the B&O Railroad line. Jessup shares its schools with nearby Fort Meade and is part of the Howard County Public School System. Jessup's schools include Jessup Elementary, Meade Junior High, and Meade Senior High, and students benefit from their education in Maryland's top-performing district

Jessup has a very active community organization, the Jessup Improvement Association, which holds many family friendly events, including the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween, and Christmas Parties. Jessup Day Celebration with food, drinks, games, and even a classic car show, is another highlight of the year in this close knit town.
