Eldersburg, MD Real Estate

Located in pastoral Carroll County, Eldersburg is a quiet hamlet with a historic past that gives residents the casual lifestyle of the country while remaining close to the commercial and corporate suburbs of Westminster and Owings Mills. Located just 30 miles outside of Baltimore City, Eldersburg seems a world away with its agrarian landscape, quaint churches, and small town feel.

Named one of the Top 100 Places to Live in the U.S. by Money Magazine in 2007, Eldersburg is rapidly becoming an in demand neighborhood for home buyers. Both older homes and new constructions are regularly available and come in a variety of styles. Large new construction, ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 square feet, come with luxurious open floor plans, majestic brick facades, large windows, and generous lots, while older traditional cottages and farm houses have wood or vinyl siding and one or two stories. As the area continues to grow, condominiums are becoming a popular option for those looking to enter the area at a lower price point.

Eldersburg and the neighboring town of Sykesville were first settled by John Sykes in the early 1800's. In its first years, German immigrants formed Eldersburg into an agricultural community, and many residents continue to carry on the tradition today. The town was a meeting place for the local farmers from surrounding areas, who traveled to Eldersburg to attend services at the town's churches, many of which still stand, contributing to Eldersburg's charm.

With its growing population, Eldersburg has taken steps to create its own Main Street district. In the fall of 2008, the town will open the county's first "green" shopping center, which in an effort to help preserve Carroll County's scenic environment is constructed out of recycled materials and will be energy efficient. Many residents are drawn to Eldersburg for the outdoor lifestyle. At Liberty Reservoir and Piney Run Park, visitors can partake in bow-hunting, fishing, hiking, and boating and the town also features a number of bed and breakfasts, restaurants, and even a vineyard.

This small town shares a school district with Sykesville and is part of the Carroll County Public School System. Its teachers and staff are committed to strong student teacher relationships and continued development among all associated with their schools, including the well-regarded South Carroll High School. Eldersburg offers prospective homebuyers ample room and land in a growing upscale community.
