Dundalk, MD Real Estate

Dundalk, a large industrial community in South Eastern Baltimore County, was initially developed in 1919 by the Bethlehem Steel Company as a place to house factory employees who worked in nearby Sparrows Point. The neighborhood still boasts many of its original 1920's style wood and stucco cottages, which are nestled in to largely residential areas. Just as the developers designed, the commercial and residential districts of Dundalk are largely separated, but are within easy walking or driving distance of one another.

Located at just above sea level, Dundalk is a coastal community on the Chesapeake Bay and many of its street names reflect its maritime connection. Small well maintained homes with neatly manicured lawns sit on streets with names like Shipway, Admiral, Northship, and Flagship. Those looking to purchase a waterfront home will find that Dundalk offers some of the most affordable on the market, with their miles of scenic shorelines.

The historic downtown commercial district has recently undergone a Baltimore County sponsored revitalization in hopes that more Marylanders will discover the special charm of this warm, welcoming, and close-knit community, whose longtime residents ensure neighborhood stability and safety. The extraordinary Dundalk Village Center, a mainstay of the local community since 1918 has been transformed into a modern town square, while still maintaining its original character, and new luxury apartments have been constructed to attract young professionals who commute to Baltimore's business district.

Dundalk is conveniently located just of the I-695 Beltway and is minutes from the Fort McHenry and Harbor Tunnels and the Key Bridge, which allows easy access to the surrounding Baltimore County towns as well as to the inner city.

Student residents of Dundalk enjoy the benefits of being part of the excellent Baltimore County Public School district, which continues to be one of Maryland's best. With an affordable median sale price, Dundalk is a great place to purchase a starter home or upgrade to a large waterfront property.
