Charles Village, MD Real Estate

Charles Village is a vibrant and diverse community located in Midtown Baltimore City. Located along the main streets of St. Paul and North Charles, Charles Village borders the neighborhoods of Guilford, Oakenshawe, Waverly, and Station North. As the setting for the Johns Hopkins Homewood Campus, Charles Village boasts a lively scene of affordable restaurants, bars, and coffee shops that one would expect from a college town.

As Johns Hopkins continues to expand, the northern end of Charles Village has attracted the attention of developers and businesses. Although the neighborhood was once characterized mainly by older brick row houses and the famed Victorian "painted ladies" that add to its quirky charm, new high-end condominiums are being built around the village as well.

Since Johns Hopkins University founded their campus in 1876, Charles Village has been a highly academic and culturally diverse community populated largely by students and teachers. An ideal walking neighborhood, students from the college and other residents of Charles Village frequently walk along the tree lined sidewalks to the local grocers, florists, bookstores, and restaurants. While many of the shops in the area are small family owned enterprises, a number of larger companies, like Barnes and Noble and Starbucks have recently opened in Charles Village's new state of the art shopping center.

Surrounded by a number of stable and safe neighborhoods, Charles Village has long been a popular choice for young professionals, academics, and artists looking to live just minutes from downtown Baltimore. Within walking distance from Penn Station, Charles Village is also convenient to Washington DC via the MARC commuter train.
