Brooklyn, MD Real Estate

Although considered within the city limits, Brooklyn is geographically isolated from the rest of Baltimore by the Patapsco River. Currently undergoing revitalization efforts by several dedicated nonprofit organizations and neighborhood associations, Brooklyn is one of Baltimore's most affordable housing markets.

Prior to its annexation by the city of Baltimore in 1918, Brooklyn was a pastoral farming community with fertile fields fed by the neighboring river. However, after the construction of the Hanover Street Bridge and the Fairfield Peninsula factories during World War II, Brooklyn underwent a housing boom. The mass urbanization of Brooklyn during the 1940's and 1950's led to a diverse and eclectic community that still populates the area today. Unfortunately, in the 1980's Brooklyn faced an economic downturn as many of the factories that contributed to its initial success closed their doors.

Today, however, as more and more young professionals express an interest in downtown living, the area is again becoming a popular neighborhood and revitalization efforts continue to help restore Brooklyn to its former status. Brooklyn is unique among other Baltimore neighborhoods as it not only has a wealth of traditional brick row houses, but also features spacious single family homes with small yards. Brooklyn is an ideal location for first time homebuyers looking to enter a close knit community with a distinctly Baltimore edge.

Brooklyn is one of Baltimore's most convenient neighborhoods for commuters with its close proximity to major highways and public transportation. Situated just off I-95 and I-695, it is easily accessible to Downtown Baltimore, Washington DC, and other corporate areas like Columbia and Hunt Valley. Popular public transportation options include the MTA Bus, Light Rail, and the nearby MARC Train, which runs to Washington, DC.
