Bowley's Quarters, MD Real Estate

Located south of Baltimore City, Bowley’s Quarters is a historic waterfront community that offers the ease of maritime living just minutes away from a bustling urban area. With its Chesapeake Bay views, placid creeks, and public beach, Bowley’s Quarters provides its residents with a vacation lifestyle twelve months a year.

Bowley’s Quarters was named after the area’s original owner, Daniel Bowley, an Eighteenth Century Baltimore based merchant and sea captain who laid claim to more than 2000 acres of the scenic land. Over a century later, Bowley’s Quarters became a waterfowl preserve and playground for some of America’s most notable figures, including the famed Baltimorean Babe Ruth. Politicians and other members of the American elite flocked to the preserve for duck hunting and to enjoy the beauty of the natural surroundings that exist to this day.

More recently, in 2003, the area made national headlines when it was devastated by Hurricane Isabel. Happily, Bowley’s Quarters is now recovered and currently undergoing a mass revitalization due to the public’s ever growing interest in its beautiful location on the Chesapeake Bay. In fact, the former majority working class neighborhood populated with employees of Bethlehem Steel and Glen L. Martin Company is now evolving into an upscale waterfront community.

Bowley’s Quarters has long been celebrated for its outdoor surroundings and with good reason. In addition to its 400 foot wide Miami Beach, secluded in a 60 acre park, Bowley’s Quarters is home to the wildlife that inhabits Galloway, Seneca, and Frog Mortar Creeks, ideal places for bird watchers and nature lovers to enjoy the Chesapeake Bay’s diverse ecosystem.

Although the popularity of Bowley’s Quarters has grown rapidly since its revitalization, affordable single family homes, townhouses, and condominiums still remain, with a median housing price of $233,400. Its prime location just outside the Baltimore city limits makes it easily accessible to hundreds of offices, prestigious universities and some of the nation’s best hospitals, including Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, the Kennedy Krieger Institute, and Franklin Square Hospital. But despite its convenient location so close to the center of Baltimore, Bowley’s Quarters continues to be a peaceful hideaway for that offers its residents a daily vacation from urban life.
